Forty years on Arundel Street

Caldmore Timber is not a shed on a ring road. It is a working yard in Walsall, run by people who will tell you honestly whether we can do the job.

How it started

One yard, one postcode, since 1985

Caldmore Timber opened in Walsall in 1985 and has traded from the same yard ever since. Four decades on, the business still does what it set out to do: keep good timber in stock, cut it to what people actually need, and charge a price you can check before you set off.

That has meant serving two very different customers side by side. The joiner who rings at half eight with a cut list. The homeowner who has never bought a length of timber before and is not sure what to ask for. Both get the same answer from the same counter.

Along the way we added a workshop and a small sawing mill, so mouldings that other merchants have to order in are machined here on site.

The workshop and sawing mill

A machining shop and small sawing mill are added on site, allowing skirting, architrave and tongue and groove to be run to customers' own specifications rather than ordered in.

Today

Still the same counter

Over a hundred products priced openly, orders taken by phone for collection or delivery, and trade accounts for the contractors who have been coming back for years.

What hasn't changed

Why people keep coming back

The things a local yard can do that a national chain cannot be bothered to.

You get a person

Ring the number and someone in the workshop answers. No call centre, no ticket number, no being passed around a branch network.

We say if we can't

Bring a moulding offcut down and we will tell you honestly whether we can match it, rather than taking the order and disappointing you in a fortnight.

Prices you can check

Over a hundred lines published on this site. No trade-only pricing, no quote form standing between you and a number.

Cut to what you need

Not to a standard pack size. Sheets cut down in the yard, timber run to length, usually while you wait.

The people

Who you'll meet at the counter

Placeholder profiles. Replace with real names, roles and photographs of the team — this section does more for a local business than any other on the site.

Marking a measurement on timber

Name to confirm

Yard Manager

A line or two on how long they have been here and what they are best at helping with.

Drilling timber in the workshop

Name to confirm

Workshop

The person who runs the mouldings and the sawing mill. Worth naming — customers ask for them.

Taking an order at the counter

Name to confirm

Counter & Orders

Whoever answers the phone. Putting a face to that voice is the single most useful thing here.

Operating the sawing machine

Name to confirm

Deliveries

The driver who turns up at the site or the driveway.

Placeholder. A short quote from the owner about why the yard is still here after forty years works better than anything a copywriter can invent. Worth asking for in their own words.
