Logs and rock salt are the two things we sell out of every winter. Both are simple to collect, both are five pounds, and both are worth picking up before the forecast turns rather than after.
Felt and insulation sit here too — the odds and ends that do not belong to a timber category but that people need alongside the job.

Getting the best of it
Store logs dry
Keep bags off the ground and under cover with air around them. Damp logs burn poorly and tar up a flue.
Rock salt early
Once ice is forecast it disappears within a day. A bag in the shed in October is worth two in January.
Felt in the warm
Torch-on and shed felt lay far better on a mild dry day. Let the roll relax flat before you fix it down.
Ring ahead
Seasonal stock moves fastest of anything in the yard. A quick call saves a wasted journey.
